Kay Forsyth, director of Study Abroad at Utah State University, said the office has long wanted to complete a video project that would capture student attention and focus, in a meaningful way, on the possibilities for study abroad faculty-led programs and affordable semester exchange programs.
And now, the project has become a reality thanks to the creative efforts of Andy Lorimer who produced a new DVD being used by the Study Abroad office.
“It really helps students put themselves in the picture and see themselves as a study abroad student,” Forsyth said. “If they can see and hear real USU students talking about their experiences and the opportunities to study in English or learn a language, it makes a big difference.”
Forsyth has used the video in classes and with special interest groups of students in the USU residence halls. She uses the video to explain the affordability and accessibility of studying abroad as a student at USU.
“The DVD says it all,” said Forsyth. “It started when Andy Lorimer, a graduate student in art, was interested in this project for his graduate portfolio. He had never been to Europe, so we sent him to film USU students and faculty onsite as well as interview coordinators at some of our partner exchange institutions.”
After only two weeks of filming, Lorimer had hours and hours of footage that was narrowed into a 9-minute work of art.
Everyone is encouraged to check out the video
online.
