USU Launches Trademark Licensing Website
In efforts to ensure appropriate use of Utah State University trademarks, both on and off campus, the university now hosts a website with recent policy changes and logo use conditions.
“We have such a great opportunity with our new Nike-designed Athletics’ logo,” said Tim Vitale, director of USU public relations and marketing. “It is important that we protect the marks against dilution and to maintain the integrity of existing university trademarks. The website is just another tool we have to help do that.”
The task of maintaining and managing licensing for the university falls upon the Trademark Licensing Manager, in conjunction with Public Relations and Marketing.
“Licensing is a way to protect the institution from liability,” said Heidi Adams, USU trademark licensing manager. “Part of my job is to make sure that university marks are being used correctly and in a manner that promotes the university.”
The university deems that only authorized and licensed vendors be allowed to print USU trademarks. Those seeking to use the university name, logos or trademarks on a product, be it for merchandise, non-profit use or Utah State internal use, should contact the trademark licensing manager.
“Utah State University is a top-tier institution,” said Vitale. “We want to make sure that is reflected by all aspects of the university, including its merchandise.”
