Utah State University recognized the USU Charter Credit Union for its extraordinary support of the Connections program for first-year students. USU representatives thanked the credit union for a $10,000 donation to the program at a ceremony at the USU Charter Credit Union branch, 1000 N. 685 East, Logan.
“The USU Charter Credit Union is visionary in realizing the value of supporting educational efforts at Utah State University,” said Noelle Call, director of USU’s retention and first-year experience. “This support allows the university to provide a broader experience and sends the message that the local community businesses are vested in the education of Utah State students.”
The donation assisted with costs for the transportation of convocation speaker Ishmael Beah, a boy soldier from Sierra Leone and author of the memoir A Long Way Gone, and lunch for 1,600 new students.
Additionally, the donation allowed instructors to provide transportation for students in the Connections class to outdoor and off-campus experiences. Some students completed service projects at the American West Heritage Center and Hyrum Dam State Park. Others used the funds for experiences such as hiking and canoeing.
“All of these events connect the new student to the wonderful Cache Valley community,” said Call. “And this isn’t the only event the USU Charter Credit Union has supported in the community; they are continually supporting the community through various donations.”
