USU's Army ROTC Holds Information Session

Utah State University’s Army ROTC program plans informational sessions Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Taggart Student Center West Colony Room (TSC 219), and all are invited. Organizers extend a special invitation to veterans, Reservists and National Guardsmen. The sessions will detail options for entering the officer training program at USU.

“Now is your chance to become an Army officer while earning a bachelor’s or master’s degree through the ROTC program at Utah State University,” said Joshua Dawson, a second lieutenant in USU’s Army ROTC.

An active duty lieutenants’ starting salary is $45,000 or more, depending upon enlisted time, he noted.

Members of the Army Reserves and National Guard have additional unique benefits as a cadet and student, including:

  • Tuition assistance pays for schooling.
  • Once contracted as a ROTC cadet, Reservists or Guard members remain non-deployable until successful completion of the ROTC program and university graduation.
  • As an ROTC cadet, join the Simultaneous Membership Program and drill with your Reserve or Guard unit. Receive E-5 pay or current pay grade, if higher. SMP cadets earn an average of $1,200 a month as active participants in the Reserves or National Guard.
  • Prior service by Reservists or Guard members allows them to skip the first two years of ROTC basic courses. Depending upon graduate date, cadets can earn a commission in two years.

USU’s Army ROTC program has been distinguished as “Best Battalion” in the Brigade. Of the 273 ROTC battalions nation wide, USU’s program is in the top 15 percent.
