Update: Multiple Outages Affected Network and Computer Access Thursday

A series of three separate and unrelated network and computer system outages caused major interruptions to users on the USU network.

A fiber optic cable carrying Internet traffic between the Logan campus and Salt Lake City was cut at approximately 9 a.m. Thursday, April 23. A backup link provided limited capacity until full access was restored early afternoon.

A system hardware failure on the Logan campus around 11:15 a.m. Thursday caused Banner, Aggiemail, Aggies Exchange, and other systems to become unavailable. Systems were brought back online starting around 10 p.m.

A power failure at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in Salt Lake City at the Eccles Broadcast Center brought down the Internet and UEN services, including Blackboard Vista. The network was restored within a few minutes, however Blackboard Vista and other UEN services did not come back online until 10 p.m.

Students who were unable to complete academic assignments due to these outages should look for instructions and guidelines from their instructors.
