Parent and Family Weekend
Activities on campus and in the Logan community are part of the 2011 Parent and Family Weekend at Utah State University.
The annual event is designed so parents and family members of Aggie students can decide how many activities to include.
Things get underway with a welcome and open house reception Friday, Oct. 7, at USU’s Merrill-Cazier Library from 7:30-9 p.m. Organizers invite weekenders to stop at the library to kick things off. There will be refreshments, music, goodie bags and tours of the library — all in the company of fellow parents, families, students and staff.
Among the optional list of evening activities that night is “Star Gazing” at the Science Engineering Research (SER) Building Observatory. Two sessions are slated, the first from 8:30-9:30 p.m. and the second from 9:30-10:30 p.m. The observatory, outfitted with a 20-inch Corrected Dall-Kirkham telescope from Planewave, is a multi-purpose facility designed for use by students enrolled in USU courses, the general public and students and amateurs involved in scientific research projects. Each star gazing session can accommodate groups of up to 40.
Parents and families can join students in a meal at the Aggie Marketplace in the Taggart Student Center and attend any number of athletic events on campus from women’s rugby to Aggie Football. Community offerings range from the Antics Comedy Improv at the Logan Arthouse and Cinema (795 N. Main St.) to the Cache Valley Gardeners’ Market (200 E. 100 South) or “Boo at the Zoo” at Logan’s Willow Park Zoo (419 W. 700 South).
A full list of activities is included at the Parent and Family Weekend website.
Multiple activities are planned for Parent and Family Weekend at USU Oct. 7-8.
