Honoring a Utah Veteran

Utah Gov. John M. Huntsman, Jr., authorized all flags, state and federal, to be flown at half-staff Thursday, June 11, in honor of decorated veteran George E. Wahlen, 84, who died June 5, 2009, in Salt Lake City. The flags at all state owned facilities will fly at half-staff from sunrise until sunset.

Wahlen retired as a major from the U.S. Army, served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He received three Purple Hearts and was Utah’s only living recipient of the Medal of Honor.
 
George Wahlen’s funeral is Thursday, June 11, with full military honors. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at the Roy North Stake Center, 4250 South 2175 West, Roy.
