Homecoming Lookout — Run a 5K

The annual Homecoming 5K starts at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at the David B. Haight Alumni Center on Utah State University campus. Registration begins at 6:45 a.m. Families, young and old, are encouraged to run together. Big Blue and the USU Spirit Squad will be there to cheer everyone on.

“I really enjoyed the stroller decorating contest,” said Kristen Anderson, who completed the race while six months pregnant and pushing her 1-year-old in a stroller. “I still had a good time, even though I came in last, well behind everyone else.”

Not only did Anderson have a good time, she finished last and still walked away with a prize.

“They gave away great prizes,” she said. “I got an awesome pedicure.”

This will only be the race’s second year as an addition to Utah State University Homecoming events. Although last year’s attendance was small, many who participated considered it a success.

“My siblings and I really enjoyed running the Homecoming 5K, even though it was a little cold,” said Aaron Dansereau. “We brought our kids, our strollers and Aggie gear and had a great time running together as a proud Aggie family.”

The proceeds from the event benefit the USU Spirit Squad Scholarship. The race course circles the main USU campus and provides stunning, early-morning views of the valley.

Cost is $10 for students and children, $20 for adults and alumni or $35 for a family. The family price includes up to four Homecoming 5K T-shirts. Extra shirts are $5 each.

Registration begins at 6:45 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at the Haight Alumni Center.
