Half-Staff Flags Honor Two

Utah Gov. Gary R. Herbert has authorized the lowering of the flag of the United States of America and the flag of the state of Utah in honor of two Utah sailors who were killed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

The flags will be lowered Saturday, Aug. 20, in honor of Special Warfare Operator Petty Officer 1st Class (SEAL) Jason R. Workman. The flags at all state facilities will be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset in his honor Aug. 20 only.

The flags will be lowered Monday, Aug. 22, in honor of Information Systems Technician Petty Officer 1st Class (Expeditionary Warfare Specialist/Freefall Parachutist) Jared W. Day. The flags will be flown at half-staff at all state facilities from sunrise to sunset in his honor Aug. 22 only.

Petty Officer Workman, of Blanding, Utah, and Petty Officer Day, of Taylorsville, Utah, were killed Aug. 6, in Wardack Province, Afghanistan. Both were assigned to an East Coast-based Naval Special Warfare Unit.
