Sarah Rule, former director of the Center for Persons with Disabilities at Utah State University, received the 2008 Outstanding Achievement Award recently from the Association of University Centers on Disabilities.
The award recognizes her excellence in three major areas of the field: teaching, scholarship and service to the wider community. The award comes from a membership organization comprised of three national networks of interdisciplinary, university-based centers dedicated to research, education, leadership training, policy development and direct service for people with disabilities.
In addition to directing the CPD, Rule served on the Utah Developmental Disabilities Council and the board of trustees of the Utah Disability Law Center. She also served on the AUCD Board of Directors and currently serves on the board of the Utah Legislative Coalition for People with Disabilities.
She currently works with the PEER (Postsecondary Education, Employment and Research) project, a collaborative effort of the Center for Persons with Disabilities, Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation, and the Cache and Logan City school districts.
Earlier this year, Rule and her husband, USU Special Education Professor Charles Salzberg, jointly received the 2008 Eagle Award from the American Council on Rural Special Education.
