Faculty Development and Diversity Workshop
The Faculty Development and Diversity Workshop series, sponsored by Utah State University’s Provost’s office, continues Monday, April 13, at 11:30 a.m. in the Merrill-Cazier Library room 101 with the presentation “Using Concept Maps to Assess Online and Traditional Classes.”
The 90-minute video presentation features Donna Saulsberry, associate professor of computer and information technology at Doña Ana Community College. Saulsberry holds a doctoral degree in learning technology, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction and a bachelor’s degree in business administration. She has spent 7 years at Doña Ana Community College developing an academic computer networking program, designing and instructing computer classes, working with and supporting faculty and staff and developing relationships with the community.
Ann Austin, vice provost for faculty development and diversity, encourages all faculty members to attend this valuable video seminar as they begin work on syllabi for upcoming courses.
“Concept mapping, a relatively new teaching and assessment technique in higher education, appears to have powerful utility when helping students link prior learning to new ideas,” Austin said. “Concept mapping helps students see the way ideas build upon each other and helps them identify the building blocks inherent in all big ideas.”
All faculty members are invited to bring a lunch and discover how concept mapping can help them make sure students are getting what you want them to out of their courses. Dessert will be provided. RSVP to Tammy Firth, tammy.firth@usu.edu, as soon as possible.
More information on this workshop is available on the Provost’s Web site. Recorded video stream and workshop handouts are posted on the Web site after each event whenever possible.
