Employee Wellness Introduces 'Boot Camp for Beginners'

Utah State University’s Employee Wellness program asks: Are you ready to get off the couch and get moving? Or: Would you like to start an exercise program but don’t want to join a gym? And finally: Are you unsure how to get started?

Dayna Barrett, USU’s interim wellness coordinator, said many know that exercise is one of the best things we can do for our health. And now, she said, it’s time to get started.

USU’s Employee Wellness Program presents “Boot Camp for Beginners,” a series designed for those with little or no exercise experience. It is a program to get individuals moving in a fun, supportive and non-judgmental atmosphere, Barrett said.

Each session incorporates cardiovascular, strength and flexibility exercises and is tailored to meet each participant’s needs and abilities.

Two, five-week sessions are offered. The first is May 30-June 27 and the second runs July 16-Aug. 17. Classes are held every Monday and Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. at the USU Nelson Fieldhouse. Sessions are also held outside, if weather permits.

The cost for each five-week session is $15, and individuals can sign up at the Campus Recreation Service Desk. For questions or concerns, contact Dayna Barrett, (435) 797-8519, dayna.barrett@usu.edu.
