Clock Stops on HASS Hour

HASS Hour, a monthly gathering that featured faculty experts on a variety of subjects, has been suspended at Utah State University. The program, offered by the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, was suspended due to budget concerns.

The decision was a difficult, but necessary step, according to Interim Associate Dean of the Arts Jeannie Thomas, who said the current economic and budget situation brought a review of the program and the decision.

HASS Hour was a community service program that facilitated faculty, student and community interactions. Faculty members and students from the college were featured in short presentations that put research and creative activity in the spotlight.

“Several factors contributed to this decision, but it comes down to budget concerns,” Thomas said. “The program has a popular following and provided valuable contacts across campus and in the community. The program’s suspension was not taken lightly, but the college remains dedicated to devoting its resources to students and the classroom.”

Alternative avenues for the program’s support continue to be explored, and the suspension will be reevaluated in the future.

The last HASS Hour was held Feb. 19 at the Logan Golf and Country Club.
