Asian Roundtable Forum at USU
Utah State University students who spent a semester studying in China will discuss the experience Thursday, Oct. 22, from 4-6 p.m. at the Merrill-Cazier Library auditorium, Room 101. All are invited to the discussion.
The event is part of the ongoing Asian Round Table Forum Series, presented by the Asian section of the Department of Languages, Philosophy and Speech Communication at USU. The title of Thursday’s presentation is “Ceramic Emersion/Chinese Experience.”
Nine graduate and undergraduate students from USU’s Department of Art participated in a semester program in Jingdezhen, China, under the direction of John Neely, professor of ceramics. The students spent an entire semester studying Chinese ceramic arts and techniques side by side with their Chinese counterparts at Jingdezhen Ceramics Institute. Jingdezhen has been known as the world capital of porcelain dating back to 1004. The area still maintains a thriving ceramics industry.
Living and working in the heart of the Chinese ceramics tradition provided the USU students an in-depth understanding of the art and culture of China.
During the USU presentation, several students who participated in the program will discuss their time spent in what is described as “an invaluable educational experience.”
The Round Table Forum is supported, in part, by funds from a 2006 Department Teaching Excellence Award.
