Zach Vigil, LT Filiaga Earn College Football Performance Honors

Utah State linebackers Zach Vigil and LT Filiaga have been named Honorable Mention National Linebackers of the Week by College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) following the team's 21-14 overtime loss at Arkansas State Saturday [Sept. 20, 2014].

Filiaga, a junior from South Jordan, Utah, matched his career-high with 10 tackles in Saturday's game, including one for a loss of eight yards. He also added one pass breakup and two fumble recoveries.

Vigil, a senior from Clearfield, Utah, had a career-best 14 tackles against Arkansas State. He also matched his career-high in tackles for loss with 3.0, for a loss of 13 yards and tied his career-high with 2.0 sacks to go along with one pass breakup.

This is Vigil's fourth overall CFPA recognition and second in as many weeks, while this is Filiaga's first career CFPA award. Filiaga and Vigil join Derek Landisch (Wisconsin), Gionni Paul (Utah), Tank Jakes (Memphis) and Jake Love (Kansas) on the honorable mention list, while Quentin Poling (Ohio) and Scooby Wright III (Arizona) share the linebacker of the week honor.

Filiaga ranks tied for second in the MW and tied for third in the nation in fumbles recovered (0.50 pg), and tied for 24th in the MW in tackles (6.5 pg). Vigil ranks tied for third in the MW and tied for 30th nationally in tackles for loss (1.50 pg), and tied for third in the MW and tied for 50th in the nation in tackles (9.2 pg).

Utah State (2-2, 0-0 MW) has a bye this week and returns to action next weekend at No. 20 BYU (4-0) Friday, Oct. 3, at 8:15 p.m. (MT). The game will be televised nationally on ESPN. USU is 34-46-3 all-time against the Cougars, including a 16-27-1 road record.
