Writing Contest Deadline Approaches

Utah State University’s Department of English invites students across campus to enter their creative work in the annual Scribendi Creative Writing Contest.

“All students are welcome to participate, no matter their college or department,” said Anne Shifrer, contest director. “There is still time for students to think of possible topics and start writing.”

The deadline for final submissions is Friday, Feb. 3. Following final judging, winners will be announced in March.

Graduates and undergraduates compete separately in the following categories: poetry, short fiction, and non-fiction essay.

ASUSU has supplied cash awards for each category, and winning entries will be published in a hard copy edition of Scribendi as well as online. The Thad and Jenny Box Creative Writing Scholarship will also be awarded to one of the competitors in the contest.

Student artwork is also sought for possible inclusion in the published version of Scribendi. Students should contact the contest director for details.

Submission instructions and more information are available on the English department Web site. Students can also contact Shifrer directly by email at annes@cc.usu.edu.
