World Premier by Anne Bogart’s Saratoga International Theatre Institute at Utah State University

When the Saratoga International Theatre Institute (SITI) last ventured to the Utah State University campus in January 2002, the beginning of something special took place. Coming full circle, the world premiere of the piece “systems/layers” debuts in the Morgan Theatre of the Chase Fine Arts Center Sept. 16, 17 and 18. The event is presented by the Marie Eccles Caine Foundation, the Associated Students of Utah State University, the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences and the Utah State Theatre Arts Department.

The SITI company is in residency at Utah State from Sept. 6-18. During the stint, SITI, partnered by musical group Rachels, will hold workshops in both the theatre and music departments.

 

Department of theatre professor Kevin Doyle serves as the liaison to the SITI company.

 

 “SITI’s visit to Utah State benefits both students, who take part in the workshops, and community members, who rarely have the opportunity to witness a professional group from New York,” Doyle said. “Right now, the theatre world is moving from an analytical, realistic side to an awareness of physicality on stage. SITI is world renowned for its prowess in the physical training of acting. The fact that the company is at Utah State for two weeks working with students and premiering a project is unbelievable. Every university in the Western hemisphere is aware of the work SITI does, and we have them here. That says volumes about the stature of our theatre department and the university as a whole.”
