Work on Steps and Path on Old Main Hill Begins Sept. 3

A project on Old Main Hill will affect travel on a portion of the hill beginning Sept. 3 when Spindler Construction begins removing and replacing the asphalt path on Old Main Hill that begins at the flagpole and runs southwest and down the hill to 400 North. Also, the upper section of stairs south of Old Main (NOT the stairs directly in front of Old Main), will be removed and replaced. The work will not affect the lower portion of the stairs which were replaced several years ago.

Work will begin by removing the old asphalt pathway and the stairs all at once. Then, the contractor will replace the pathway with new concrete, one section at a time, starting at the flagpole and working down. Once the path is complete, the pathway will be re-opened and work on the stairs will begin.

Due to the nature of the project, access to campus from the southwest corner of campus on 400 North and the southwest parking lot located on 400 North will be interrupted and vice versa. The contractor will post signage to help direct pedestrian and bicycle traffic around the construction areas.

Work on the project is expected to run through the last week of November, weather permitting.
