What’s A Bee Worth?

A single southeastern blueberry bee is worth about $20 says Utah State University researcher James Cane. That’s its value in terms of commercial blueberry production that results from each female's brief lifetime of foraging. Budget-minded governments are increasingly asking scientists to assign dollar values to the environment, as they must justify conservation expenditures to head off more costly environmental damages.
