Wellness Fair in December - Olympic Champion Rulon Gardner to Speak
Whether flu shots will be widely available is questionable, but Human Resources at Utah State University is forging ahead with plans for a Wellness Fair.
The former Health and Benefits Fair, now known as the Utah State University Wellness Fair, will be held Dec. 6 in the Eccles Conference Center. Plans for the fair include a number of events, including guest speaker Rulon Gardner. Additionally, health screenings and assessments (by appointment only) and displays and demonstrations by retirement and health care providers will be offered.

Due to the problems with flu vaccine availability, the annual Utah State flu shot program has been postponed until further notice. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has issued strict guidelines that flu shots be made available only to those people in high risk categories. High risk categories:
- All children 6-23 months
- Adults over age 65
- Those between 2 and 64 years old with chronic medical conditions
- All women who will be pregnant during flu season
- Residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities
- Children 6 months-18 years old on chronic aspirin therapy
- Health care workers with direct patient care
- Out-of-home caregivers and household contacts with children under 6 months old
The Bear River Health Department recommends the following guidelines to protect against flu:
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick
- When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick
- Stay home from work, school and errands when you are sick
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing
- Washing your hands often will help protect you from germs
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth as germs are often spread when a person touches something contaminated by germs
