'Water Creates' at USU's Science Unwrapped Friday, Oct. 9
Environmental artist Betsy Damon of the internationally renowned 'Keepers of the Waters' organization is featured speaker at Science Unwrapped Friday, Oct. 9. She presents ‘Water Creates’ at 7 p.m. in the Eccles Science Learning Center Auditorium.
Science Unwrapped, the public outreach program of Utah State University’s College of Science, meets at the confluence of art and science as it welcomes environmental artist Betsy Damon as featured speaker Friday, Oct. 9.
“Quality of water has to equal quality of life,” says Damon, founder of the internationally renowned, Brooklyn, N.Y.-based Keepers of the Waters organization. “If we degrade water, we degrade our quality of life.”
Damon, who has collaborated with scientists and urban planners around the world to create naturally filtering urban water parks, presents “Water Creates” at 7 p.m. in the Eccles Science Learning Center Emert Auditorium, Room 130, on the Logan campus. Her talk, free and open to all ages, is followed by hands-on learning activities, exhibits and refreshments.
Hosted by USU’s College of Science, Damon’s presentation is the second of three in Science Unwrapped’s fall 2015 “Bridging Troubled Waters” series during the university’s “Year of Water.” USU biologist Michelle Baker speaks Nov. 6.
During her Utah State visit, Damon will also address students through the university’s ARTsySTEM program. Her campus visit is made possible by the USU Department of Art and Design.
“We welcome our community to experience this fascinating water series,” says Nancy Huntly, Science Unwrapped chair, director of USU’s Ecology Center, professor in the Department of Biology and co-director of ARTsySTEM. “Our presentations offer something for everyone.”
