Wartime Media Censorship

Modern methods of media censorship during wartime emerged about 100 years ago during the Russo-Japanese War, says USU researcher Mike Sweeney. The Japanese First Army instituted military escorts, pre-publication censorship, and press pools, in which all stories were shared. Their methods were widely copied and are still in use by most countries today, including the United States.
