Walking Away with a Free Lunch

Yes, it's the first week of school and there is plenty going on — classes, assignments and trips to the lab. To help the first week along, members of the Associated Students of Utah State University put together a series of more casual and social events to welcome students.

Under the banner of WOW — Week of Welcome — activities are designed to bring the students of Utah State together as a community. There's bingo, a day on the Quad, movies, comedy and more. There's a blood drive battle pitting Utah State against the University of Utah and there's a Special Olympics basketball game.
And, of course, there's food.

President Hall was on hand Aug. 31 to welcome students at a "Walking Taco" lunch that served an estimated 1,400 students. Yes, there is such a thing as a free lunch and the hungry students took advantage of the lunch treat served by Utah State administrators and faculty.

For those not familiar with a walking taco, it's chili, cheese and lettuce, put together in a small bag of Fritos. The students couldn't seem to get enough. Add a little Aggie Ice Cream to the menu and you've got the perfect meal.

Coordinator of the day's lunch was Christopher Silva, who said the event was a definite success.

"We wanted to provide a free lunch and welcome students to Utah State," he said. "We also wanted to introduce students to faculty members and administrators in a casual, relaxed atmosphere."

Silva thanked all those involved, noting that approximately 50 faculty members, department heads and administrators took part. All worked in 30-minute shifts.
