Utah State’s [University] Cole Lambourne finished 15th in the semifinals of the men’s 400-meter dash with a time of 46.53 seconds Wednesday [June 10, 2015] at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Finals at historic Hayward Field.

By finishing in the top-16 of the event, the junior from Riverton, Utah, earned second-team All-American honors. Lambourne advanced to his first Outdoor Finals by placing sixth overall in the 400m with a personal-best time of 46.10 in the quarterfinals at the West Prelims on May 29 in Austin, Texas.

“He ran a good race,” veteran Utah State head coach Gregg Gensel said. “He didn’t have a PR, but you can only do that so many times. I’m proud of him and he really represented.”

Utah State senior Chari Hawkins began her final Outdoor Finals appearance on a good note. The native of Rexburg, Idaho, is currently in eighth place in the women’s heptathlon with 3,482 points following the first four events at the Outdoor Finals.

“She had a PR to start off the day, had an OK day in the high jump and then came back and finished up the PR in the 200 by three-tenths,” Gensel said. “You can’t argue with that effort and her score is only a few points behind where she was at Mt. SAC when she scored 5,732.”

Hawkins began the competition by setting a personal best in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.44 seconds. That mark also moved her into second place all-time in school history. She finished eighth overall in the event and first in her heat.

Hawkins then tied for eighth in the high jump with a third-attempt clearance of 1.69m (5-06.50). In her final two heptathlon events of the day, the four-time All-American — twice in the heptathlon and twice in the pentathlon — Hawkins finished 19th in the shot put with a throw of 11.48m (37-8.00), then set another personal best in the 200m with a time of 24.28 as she finished eighth overall and second in her heat.

The Women’s Outstanding Performer of the Meet at the Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Hawkins automatically qualified for the Outdoor Finals in the heptathlon after posting a school-record score of 5,732 points at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 16. She also held the old mark of 5,598 points, which was set at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Finals.

Hawkins earned second-team All-American honors in both 2013 and 2014 after finishing 11th and ninth, respectively, in the heptathlon.

The final three events of the heptathlon will take place on Thursday [June 11], beginning with the long jump at 1 p.m. (MT). The javelin will take place at 2:15 p.m., followed by the 800m at 5:28 p.m.

“The long jump will be a good event for her,” Gensel said. “Her javelin is OK and her 800 is OK, so as long as she can do well in the long jump to start off the day, that will set the stage to finishing up strong.”
