Utah State [University] women's volleyball will open its 2016 season this weekend [Aug. 19-20], traveling to Corvallis, Ore., to take part in the Ultra Ankle Challenge. The Aggies are slated to face Oregon State, Seattle and Portland over the two-day tournament, beginning the weekend against Oregon State Friday at 11 a.m.
"We are ready to play somebody else and measure ourselves against other teams," head coach Grayson DuBose said. "We just know each other so well at this point that playing somebody else will help us see where we measure up."
The Aggies have their leader at every position returning in 2016, including the top five attackers from the 2015 campaign in junior outside Rachel Gale (355 kills), senior outside Kaylie Kamalu-Smith (341 kills), junior right side Kayla DeCoursey (144 kills), junior middle Carly Lenzen (143 kills) and sophomore middle Lauren O'Brien (112 kills). Lenzen also led the Aggies in blocks in 2015, recording 95, with senior libero Hannah Gleason returning on the back row with a team-best 506 digs last season. Senior setter Erica Moscoso is the final cog, leading the Aggies with 622 assists last season and averaging 8.64 per set.
Following the match with Oregon State on Friday, Utah State will wrap up its weekend with a pair of matches on Saturday, facing Seattle at 11 a.m., and Portland at 5 p.m. Live stats for every match will be available online at oregonstate.statbroadcast.com.
