Utah State University to Host Authentic Beat Poetry Night

The Beat generation will be revisited during an evening of beat poetry reading, live jazz music and hot beverages at Utah State University’s Beat Night Friday, March 30.

USU’s Skyroom Restaurant will provide the setting for “hep cats” and “kits” as they share their unique way with words and visual presentation as listeners sip a steamy cup of coffee or cocoa and snap their fingers.

 

The USU Jazz Combo will accompany the poets with groovy music, joined by visual presentations from the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art.

 

Guest poets will fill the program from 8 to 9 p.m., followed by an open mic session. Everyone is invited to read a favorite Beat poem or some original writing on any topic in any genre.

 

“USU houses the national Beat archives and hosted the O.C. Tanner Symposium on the beat generation on campus last year,” said Star Coulbrooke, Beat Night committee chair.

 

Caffe Ibis will serve hot beverages in unique mugs, custom-made by the USU Ceramics Guild. The mugs are a souvenir for each guest to take at the end of the evening.

 

Tickets are $3 in advance and $5 at the door. Tickets can be purchased in advance from the event sponsors at the University Inn, the Writing Center (RBW 104) or Citrus and Sage coffee shop located at 130 North 100 East in Logan.
