Utah State University to Hold Art Workshop for Teachers

Utah State University is hosting a one-credit “Arts Are Core!” workshop July 9-10 for elementary school teachers.

The workshops include art, content-focused breakout sessions, an art education keynote speaker and lunches focused on the arts. The workshop will be from 8:30 a.m.- 3:45 p.m. at the Edith Bowen Laboratory School on the USU campus in Logan. Those interested in attending must submit an application by May 22.

 

The Sorenson Legacy Foundation is offering workshop scholarships for 100 Utah kindergarten through sixth grade teachers.

 

“As the curriculum of the classroom continues to narrow, the ‘Arts Are Core!’ workshop will help teachers integrate the arts into their classroom curriculum,” said Scott Hunsaker, associate professor in the elementary education department at USU. “This is a unique opportunity for teachers to receive personalized training to ensure a better education for the children they teach.”

 

Hunsaker said USU understands the importance of art education. The Edith Bowen Laboratory School is driven by innovative curricula and dynamic educators working in a diverse environment.

 

“There is nowhere else in the state that could provide a better understanding of the art of everyday human experience,” said Hunsaker.
