Utah State University Presents Jazz Night At The Sky Club

An evening of dining, dancing and relaxation has been planned at Utah State University through the combined efforts of the Skyroom Restaurant, the Utah State Department of Music, Utah State Catering and the Utah State University Inn. Proceeds of the evening support the newly created Larry Smith Jazz Scholarship.

 

Jazz Night at the Sky Club presents a night of live music and big band dancing Feb. 11 and 12 at 7 p.m. The Skyroom Restaurant in the Taggart Student Center will be transformed into a jazz club for the two-night event. For those who want to take advantage of a full weekend escape, an overnight package at the University Inn has been designed as well.

 

Tickets for the dinner and dance are available at the Utah State Ticket Office in the Smith Spectrum and are $29 per person. The University Inn overnight package includes tickets for two to Jazz Night, a one-night stay at the newly remodeled Inn and breakfast the next morning. Cost of the package is $129. The Skyroom will be transformed with the enchanting glow of a 1930s nightclub, said Ann Marie Wallace, chair of the jazz night planning committee. Patrons will be swept away by the reminiscent sights and sounds of the big band era, she said.

 

The evening opens dinner accompanied by the sound of the Becky Lafferty/Charlie Malolo Duo. This Utah State student combo combines vocals and nylon-stringed guitar.

 

Guests can dance the night away as Utah State University’s Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Orchestra play with featured vocalists. Also appearing is Utah State’s former jazz educator and noted jazz saxophonist Larry Smith. The melodies of Glenn Miller, Harry James, Duke Ellington and Count Basie are among those planned for the evening.  

 

The Skyroom will serve an array of cuisine, including smoked flank steak with wild mushroom demi glaze or a choice of two other entrees, including a vegetarian offering. Guests have a choice of specialty drinks, including Aggie Sparkle, peaches and cream, Shirley Temple, Roy Rogers and Lime Rickey.

 

After dancing and elegant dining, guests with the overnight package can step next door and relax in a University Inn room that includes a two queen bed room and a hot breakfast buffet the following morning.
