Utah State University Facilities & Sustainability Council Award $15,610

Utah State University Facilities awarded $15, 610 to four projects on the USU campus addressing safety, multi-modal infrastructure, access, informed choices and clean environment and healthy community. Utah State University Facilities created the one-time grant to improve campus transportation systems and solicit ideas from faculty, staff and students for improvements. The projects were supported by $5,746 in matching funds.

The recipients include:

• Darren Bingham, student in Environment and Society, received $3,924 for moveable bike racks for events, constructions sites and experimental locations. The proposal aims to improve the convenience of bicycling by providing additional bicycle parking in convenient locations.
• Roslynn Brain, assistant professor in Environment and Society, received $6,890 for a level two electric vehicle charging station in a student parking lot. The proposal is a collaboration with the Utah Governor’s Office of Energy Development to improve air quality by improving the convenience of using of electric vehicles.
• Stephanie Tomlin, coordinator of Aggie Blue Bikes, received $1,480 for the purchase and installation of a high security electric bike pump. The grant will allow Aggie Blue Bikes to provide continuous access to free air for their tires, one the most common bike repairs.
• Mitchell Colver, coordinator in Student Orientation and Transition Services, received $3,316 for videos informing students on available transportation options, including the airport shuttle, local bus services, carshare and Zimride rideshare.

About USU Facilities

USU Facilities is comprised of approximately 300 personnel responsible for campus facilities, including planning, design and construction, operations, maintenance, space management, recycling and surplus sales. Facilities supports faculty, staff and students in their educational endeavors.

About the USU Sustainability Council

The Utah State University Sustainability Council formed in 2007 after the university signed the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC). The council seeks to reduce carbon emissions in accordance with the ACUPCC as well as conserve resources and enhance quality of life by promoting sustainability in USU’s operations, academic and service missions. Members of the council include faculty, staff, students and community members.
