Utah State University Celebrates Generosity at Old Main Society

Friends, alumni, faculty, staff and students gathered Friday, Oct. 21, to honor generosity at the Utah State University Old Main Society event.
As 2016 comes to a close, the university celebrated the culmination of notable accomplishments and thanked donors and friends for generous gifts that will forever change the university for good.
The areas highlighted during the evening festivities included: the newly renovated Maverik Stadium, the Sorenson Legacy Foundation Center for Clinical Excellence, the Fine Arts Center Expansion/Renovation and ongoing USU scholarship support.
USU inducted 96 new members into the Old Main Society joining more than 2,600 other Aggies. The university also recognized 103 current members who moved up to new giving levels.
The Old Main Society was established in 1967 to recognize those seeking to continue the tradition of excellence at Utah State University by providing generous gifts that enhance funding from the state, research grants and other sources. The event celebrated Old Main Society members, both old and new, whose generosity ensures the future success of Utah State University and the students it serves.
Annually, the Old Main Society presents three awards: New Generation, Emeriti and the Spirit of Old Main. Reflecting that spirit, USU President Stan L. Albrecht instead wanted to honor all of the generous donors who made the several critical projects highlighted during the program come to fruition. However, as his tenure comes to a close, the university honored Albrecht and his wife, Joyce, with the Spirit of Old Main award.
“As chair of USU’s Board of Trustees, I decided to use the momentous occasion to celebrate two special Aggies near and dear to my heart who have shown tremendous support and love for Utah State through the years,” said Ron Jibson, chair of USU Trustees. “The recipients not only love the university, but have led the university for nearly 12 years.”
USU’s Spirit of Old Main is presented to alumni or friends of the university who have shown outstanding commitment to USU and its goal of supporting superlative students, world-class teaching and renowned research.
In 2015, the university celebrated ten years of education, innovation and growth under the leadership of Albrecht. Since taking the helm in 2005, Albrecht and his wife, Joyce, USU’s first lady, have seen the university through remarkable changes and successes.
Prior to being named president, Albrecht served as executive vice president and provost at Utah State. He also served as its dean of the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences from 1998-2001. Joyce served not only as first lady, but also as a development professional, most recently in USU’s Caine College of the Arts.
Albrecht announced his retirement from USU in February 2016. The search for a new president is currently underway.
