Utah State University Celebrates Founders Day

Utah State University celebrated its birthday at Founders Day activities in Salt Lake City. The event, sponsored by the Alumni Association, recognized individuals who have contributed time, resources and spirit to the university.

Those honored at the banquet include Bonnie Parkin, Jonathan Bullen and Richard and Moonyean Anderson who received the Distinguished Service Award. The alumni association’s top award, the Distinguished Alumnus Award, was presented to David Kragthorpe and Col. Doyle “Dode” Rees.

Utah State University President Stan Albrecht addressed the gathering, providing a re-cap of the recent Utah legislative session. This has been a good year for Utah State after three years of serious budget reductions to higher education, he told the crowd that was gathered in the Ballroom of the Little America Hotel.

“We received essential support for faculty and staff compensation, maintenance on our buildings and for fuel and power,” said Albrecht. “Funds were also set aside to help us retain strong faculty who are being recruited by other institutions.”

The celebration honors the founding of the university on March 8, 1888.
