Utah State University Celebrates Earth Day 2018

Students from the Utah State University Student Sustainability Office will be hosting the USU Earth Day Festival Friday, April 20, from 10 a.m.-7p.m.

The festival will start at 10 a.m. on the USU Quad with informational tables from numerous local organizations, music, guest yoga instructor and Dining Services food truck. The morning will also feature the kick-off of an EcoHunt event where teams of two to six students will compete for outdoor recreation sponsored prizes. The EcoHunt will encourage team participation in all of the Earth Day events activities like recycling, going for a hike and riding the CVTD bus and conclude Sunday night. 

Following the events on the USU quad, there will service projects. Starting at 2 p.m. volunteers are needed for three outdoor service projects at the USU Student Organic Farm, Utah Conservation Corps community garden and on the Saturday up Logan Canyon. After the service projects conclude at 4:30 p.m. volunteers are invited to a celebration at First Dam Park, Lucky Slice will be at this event with their food truck. The celebration will include local music and free paddleboard rental and instruction from the USU Outdoor Program.

Student organizers expect this to be the largest Earth Day event the USU Student Sustainability Office has hosted in over a decade, due in part to funding by a student sustainability grant and the enthusiasm this has generated throughout campus and the community.

Can’t make it on Friday, don’t worry there are other events throughout the week. Monday, 16 at 5 p.m. is the Impact Art Exhibition. Wednesday, April 18, at 6 p.m., is a film screening of The Messenger in Taggart Student Center Auditorium. Thursday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m., is a speaker on the Living Building Challenge in the Taggart Student Auditorium.
