Utah State Track and Field Does Well at Utah Twilight Meet

Utah State [University] men's and women's track and field teams sent a handful of athletes to the Twilight Meet hosted by the University of Utah on Tuesday [May 5, 2009]. Sophomores James Allred (800m) and Clint Silcock (high jump) both had NCAA regional qualifying marks.

Silcock joined fellow Aggie women in tabbing four event titles at the meet including junior Ashlee Cannon (100m hurdles), sophomore Maria Halton (200m) and the 4x100 relay team.

 

Allred's NCAA regional qualifying mark of 1:50.20 in the 800m earened him a second-place finish with a new PR. Allred also bettered his Western Athletic Conference-best time in the event. Junior Nate Lloyd also set a new PR in the event clocking in at 1:57.45 for seventh-place.

 

Silcock also set an NCAA regional qualifying mark, winning the event by clearing 7-00.75 (2.15m) in the high jump which is a new PR and fourth-best in Utah State history. Silcock's mark is tied for the best in the WAC with Boise State's Ryan Grinnell.

 

Senior Nick Karren set a new PR in the 200m tabbing second-place and finishing in 21.64. It was Karren's first attempt at the event this season.

 

In the triple jump, senior Blake Hadfield had a new season-best mark of 48-06.75 (14.80m), playing second.

 

Freshman John Johnson set a new PR in the pole vault clearing 16-01.00 (4.90m), tabbing him an eighth-place finish.

 

Junior Ashlee Cannon won the 100m hurdles with a new PR of 14.02 which is third-best in the WAC and eighth-best in Utah State school history.

 

USU's 4x100 relay team took first-place in the event clocking in at 46.36. The Aggies' 4x400 relay team tabbed second-place but set a new season best in the event finishing at 3:42.37, which is the sixth-fastest time in Utah State history

 

Sophomore Maria Halton finished the 100m in a new PR of 12.13 in second-place, while senior Kaylene Gastaldi finished in fifth-place at 12.49, which is a new season-best. Freshman Chalese West also set a PR in the event, finishing in seventh at 12.81.

 

Halton also took first in the 200m in 24.67. She was followed by junior Jen Day who set a new PR and finished in fourth-place at 25.11. West finished in seventh-place clocking in at 25.32, which is another PR on the day for her.

 

In the women's pole vault, Gastaldi tied for sixth-place clearing 11-11.75 (3.65m), while junior Kirstin Flesher came in eighth at 11-05.75 (3.50m).

 

In the high jump senior Tara Pickett tied for sixth-place with a height of 5-03.00 (1.60m) while freshman Madison Jensen (4-11.00, 1.50m) finished in 12th-place.

 

Utah State's next action will be to host the WAC Outdoor Championships at the Ralph Maughan Track Stadium in Logan, Utah, Wednesday-Saturday, May 13-16.

 

Multi-events are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday and will continue at the same time Thursday. The rest of the events will begin Friday, May 15, at 12:30 p.m. and continue Saturday beginning at 12:30 p.m. with the final event of the championships schedule, to start at 7:25 p.m.
