Utah State Football Earns Honorable Mention Academic Achievement Award

Utah State’s football team earned recognition from the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) as it is one of 78 institutions to receive the Academic Achievement Award for graduating 75 percent or more of their student-athletes.

Utah State has a Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 87 percent to rank first in the Mountain West. The Aggies also rank first among the other football programs in the Beehive State, ahead of Utah (78), Weber State (69), Southern Utah (61) and BYU (48).

This is the third consecutive year Utah State has earned honorable mention Academic Achievement Award honors from AFCA.

Miami (Fla.), Northwestern and Stanford will share the AFCA 2016 Academic Achievement Award, which is presented by the Touchdown Club of Memphis.

This year’s award marks the ninth time the NCAA’s GSR?formula has been used to select the winner. From 1981 to 2007, the award was presented based on a formula used by the College Football Association and AFCA. Since 2008, the criteria for the AFCA’s Academic Achievement Award is based on the highest NCAA GSR, at least 15 students in the GSR Cohort, and a Federal Graduation Rate of 75 percent or better.

Other Mountain West institutions to be recognized for graduating 75 percent or more of their football student-athletes include Boise State, Colorado State, Hawai’i, San Jose State and Wyoming.
