Utah State Cross Country Teams Picked Fifth and Sixth in MW Midseason Polls

USU's men’s and women’s cross country teams were picked fifth and sixth, respectively, in the Mountain West midseason coaches’ polls, which were released Wednesday afternoon by the conference office.

Utah State’s [University] men’s and women’s cross country teams were picked fifth and sixth, respectively, in the Mountain West midseason coaches’ polls, which were released Wednesday afternoon [Oct. 5, 2016] by the conference office.

On the men’s side, No. 21 Colorado State received five first-place votes and 47 points to claim the top spot. No. 18 Boise State was the only other team to receive first-place votes as they recorded three with 44 points to secure second. Air Force was third with 38 points, followed by New Mexico (29). The Aggies garnered 23 points for fifth, while Wyoming (21), San José State (13), and Fresno State (9) rounded out the poll.

In the women’s poll, No. 11 New Mexico claimed the top spot with nine first-place votes and 99 points. No. 10 Boise State snagged two first-place votes and 92 points to be tabbed second. Colorado State was third (79), then Air Force (68) and Wyoming (63). The Aggies were picked sixth with 62 points, while Nevada (47), San José State (35), Fresno State (24), San Diego State (18) and UNLV (18) concluded the poll.

In last year’s midseason polls Utah State’s men’s and women’s cross country teams were picked sixth and seventh, respectively.

In its last meet, Utah State’s men finished eighth out of 38 teams with 211 points, while the women placed 10th out of 45 teams with 275 points in its last meet at the Lehigh-hosted Paul Short Run.

Utah State cross country returns to action at home on Friday, Oct. 7, for the Steve T. Reeder Memorial.
