Utah State Cross Country Programs Honored by National Organization

Utah State’s [University] men and women’s cross country programs were honored by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Wednesday [Feb. 11, 2015]. Both teams earned All-Academic honors, and senior Eric Shellhorn was also recognized.

Utah State’s women’s cross country program had a cumulative 3.52 grade point average (GPA) during the 2014 season, while the Aggie men had a 3.08 cumulative GPA. Overall, 226 women’s teams and 179 men’s teams earned All-Academic honors from the USTFCCCA.

Shellhorn, a senior from Montrose, Colo., was one of 91 male student-athletes at the Division I level to earn All-Academic accolades from the USTFCCCA. Honorees had compiled a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and finished in the top 15 (or 10 percent) at regionals or as an All-American at the national meet.

Shellhorn concluded his cross country career last fall [2014] with a 97th-place finish at the NCAA Championships after earning All-Mountain Region honors by placing 20th at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships.

Overall, Shellhorn was one of just six Mountain West men’s cross country athletes to earn All-Academic honors from the USTFCCCA. Furthermore, USU’s men’s program was one of five Mountain West schools recognized for academic excellence, while the Aggie women’s program was one of seven schools from the Mountain West to be honored.
