Utah State Alumnus Honored with Professional Achievement Award

Craig Janes was honored Oct. 21 by the College of Business with the Professional Achievement Award. Janes, fourth generation Utah State Aggie, is the national director of estate, gift and trust services in Washington, D.C., with Deloitte. He is responsible for the technical accuracy and quality assurance of the tax solutions that Deloitte helps its clients implement. He also designs and implements strategies that achieve the personal and charitable objectives of many of Deloitte’s most wealthy clients. Over the years, his clients have included 14 members of the Forbes 400.

“Craig actually enjoys negotiating with the IRS and state tax agencies, a task most of us would prefer to avoid,” said Caryn Beck-Dudley, College of Business dean, in her award presentation.

Janes earned his bachelor’s in accounting summa cum laude and was the valedictorian of the 1985 class. He was awarded the Federation of Schools of Accountancy’s Outstanding Scholar Award as well as the Utah Association of CPA’s Outstanding Graduate Award. Receiving the latter award has become a family tradition. His father, Lynn Janes, a Utah State professor for more than 30 years, was honored as the outstanding graduate in 1961.

Following his academic years at Utah State, Janes also earned an MPA from the University of Texas at Austin.
