Utah Public Radio's "Synecdoche" to Honor Utah’s Poet Laureate, Ken Brewer

Synecdoche, Utah Public Radio's broadcast literary arts program will pay a tribute to the work of Ken Brewer, Utah’s Poet Laureate, Thursday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m. at the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art on the Utah State University campus.

 

"This program is dear to all of our hearts," said Synecdoche host and producer Marina Hall.

Brewer is currently battling inoperable pancreatic cancer. The program will feature readings of Brewer’s poetry, including many pieces written recently during what he terms his “fever pitch” period since the cancer was diagnosed in June of this year.

 

Utah State University President Stan Albrecht will be among the program’s readers, and he’ll be joined by Jerry Fuhriman, John McReynolds and Jeff Smitten. The program is directed by Cory Castillo.

 

The live taping encourages audience participation and is free and open to the public.

 

“This program will likely be heavily attended,” said Hall, who encourages attendees to arrive early as seating is limited. “We’ll begin promptly at 7,” she said.
