Utah Public Radio Welcomes Frank Mueller as Station Manager

LOGAN — Utah Public Radio’s new station manager is a veteran of public media. Frank Mueller, who stepped into the role on July 1, brings decades of experience in radio management, public broadcasting and higher education to the statewide network.

Mueller joins UPR following leadership roles in both commercial and public broadcasting, most recently serving in senior management at WPSU-FM at Penn State. During his career, he has overseen broadcast operations, programming, audience development and student engagement initiatives while working closely with university-affiliated media organizations.

“I fell in love with radio after visiting a local station in Modesto, California, when I was 13,” Mueller said. “While I had loved listening to the radio since my early childhood, seeing behind the curtain convinced me that was what I wanted to do.”

Mueller's public media career began at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he managed station operations before advancing to the role of general manager. During his tenure, he helped expand opportunities for students while growing the station's audience. He later owned and operated a small radio group in Utah Valley and taught at Utah Valley University before returning to public broadcasting at Penn State.

“My passion for public radio came after the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, hired me to manage operations at their station,” Mueller said. “Eventually I moved into the general manager role and helped increase student opportunities and audience support for the station.”

As station manager, Mueller will lead UPR’s efforts to provide trusted news, thoughtful conversation and community-centered programming to listeners throughout Utah and beyond. He succeeds longtime UPR leaders Kerry Bringhurst and Tom Williams, whose retirements this summer marked the conclusion of decades of service to the Logan-operated station.

Mueller, who will also serve as professional practice faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences, said he is excited to return to Utah and continue the station's mission of public service. An avid outdoor enthusiast, Mueller also looks forward to reconnecting with the state’s communities both on and off the air.

“I'm excited to be back in beautiful Utah,” he said. “Whether biking, hiking or scouting, there's a good chance you'll meet me on the trail.”
