USU's Science Unwrapped Fords 'Troubled Waters' in New Series
Hosted by USU's College of Science, Science Unwrapped features family friendly presentations and hands-on learning activities all ages can enjoy together.
In the spirit of Utah State University’s 2015 Year of Water, Science Unwrapped embarks on its new fall 2015 “Bridging Troubled Waters” series Friday, Sept. 11. Hosted by USU’s College of Science, Science Unwrapped invites inquiring minds of all ages to join in the journey as scholars from a variety of disciplines ford contemporary water resource challenges.
“We welcome our community to experience this fascinating series,” says Nancy Huntly, Science Unwrapped chair, director of USU’s Ecology Center, professor in the Department of Biology and co-director of USU’s ARTsySTEM. “Our presentations offer something for everyone.”
At a glance, upcoming “Bridging Troubled Waters” presentations include:
- Friday, Sept. 11, Leave it to Beavers: Lessons from Nature’s River Restoration Engineers. Geomorphologist Joe Wheaton, professor in USU’s Department of Watershed Sciences and the USU Ecology Center
- Friday, Oct. 9, Keepers of the Waters: Artists, Scientists Team to Create Urban Water Parks. Visiting environmental artist Betsy Damon, Keepers of the Waters
- Friday, Nov. 6, iUTAH: Science for Utah’s Water Future. Ecologist Michelle Baker, professor in USU’s Department of Biology and the USU Ecology Center and project director of iUTAH (innovative Urban Transitions and Aridregion Hydro-sustainability).
Each presentation begins at 7 p.m. in the Emert Auditorium, Room 130, of the Eccles Science Learning Center on campus. Admission is free. Initiated by the college in February 2009, Science Unwrapped introduces science in a relaxed, entertaining manner. Presentations begin with a brief lecture, followed by learning activities and refreshments. Each event draws several hundred guests, with attendees ranging from preschoolers to senior citizens.
