USU's Science Unwrapped Announces Fall 2017 'Ecology!' Series
Science Unwrapped launches its new 'Ecology!' series, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the USU Ecology Center, Friday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. in the Eccles Science Learning Center auditorium. Each gathering is free and all ages are welcome.
Utah State University’s Ecology Center is marking 50 years of research and academic excellence and that’s something to celebrate. USU’s Science Unwrapped public outreach program marks this milestone with its new, Fall 2017 “Ecology!” series. The fun kicks off Friday, Sept. 15, highlighting research from some of the university’s outstanding ecologists.
“We’re very excited to welcome the public to this fascinating series,” says Nancy Huntly, Science Unwrapped chair, director of USU’s Ecology Center and professor in the Department of Biology. “This fall, we’ll delve into wildlife, forest and marine ecology and learn about critical challenges facing our planet.”
Hosted by USU’s College of Science, Science Unwrapped welcomes inquiring minds of all ages to its family friendly presentations.
At a glance, upcoming “Ecology!” presenters and their talks are:
- Friday, Sept. 15
“Sharing the World with Big Animals”
Wildlife ecologist Johan du Toit, professor in USU’s Department of Wildland Resources and the USU Ecology Center
- Friday, Oct. 6
“Why the World Needs Big Trees”
Forest ecologist Jim Lutz, assistant professor in USU’s Department of Wildland Resources and the USU Ecology Center
- Friday, Nov. 3
“Sharks: Guardians of Our Oceans”
Marine ecologist Trisha Atwood, assistant professor in USU’s Department of Watershed Sciences and the USU Ecology Center
Each presentation begins at 7 p.m. in the Emert Auditorium, Room 130, of the Eccles Science Learning Center on campus. Admission is free.
In Spring 2018, Science Unwrapped hosts its “Science of Art” series, in celebration of USU’s “Year of the Arts.”
Initiated by the college in February 2009, Science Unwrapped introduces science in a relaxed, entertaining manner. Presentations begin with a brief lecture, followed by hands-on learning activities and refreshments. Each event draws several hundred guests, with attendees ranging from preschoolers to senior citizens.
