USU's Career Services Offerings Expands to Wasatch Front
Earning a college degree is a life-changing moment filled with both excitement and anxiety and today, in the midst of the global Coronavirus pandemic, graduates are facing unprecedented challenges as they go out into the workforce. Utah State University is doing what it can to help ease that transition by helping both students and alumni to become valuable assets as they enter to the competitive job market.
And now, in order to help even more students and alumni reach their dreams, USU Career Services is expanding its services to the Wasatch Front with the hire of career coach Marissa Armitstead, who is based in Salt Lake City. Armitstead, who began her career as a career ambassador for the University of Utah’s Career and Professional Development Center, has experience in areas of student affairs including student government, academic advising, intramural sports and student recreation centers. USU’s Wasatch Front region covers the campuses of USU Heber, USU Orem, USU Park City and USU Salt Lake.
“I am excited for the opportunity to share my knowledge of strategies, tools and resources with USU students and alumni,” said Armitstead. “Helping students achieve their career goals and assisting them to propel them along their professional path is my number one priority.”
The Career Services office at USU provides services to help one achieve career goals, whatever those may be. Career coaches help students and alumni identify unique strengths and interests in order to explore career options, obtain student employment and internships and to prepare for, begin or continue professional careers post-graduation or to get ready for graduate school.
The move to expand career services offered to the Wasatch Front area is a natural next step as many members of the Aggie family are located in the area, often because there are more career opportunities, according to David Vernon, associate vice president of USU Wasatch Front.
“With Marissa joining our team, she will be able to assist students through smart strategies and coaching to make that next exciting career move,” said Vernon.
USU’s Career Services was recognized in May, with a 2020 Best of Logan Award in the Employment Center category by the Logan Award Program. Those interested in learning more about the offerings provided by USU Career Services, or to schedule an appointment, may visit the USU Career Services web page. Due to safety measures being taken by the university to keep students, staff and faculty safe, all appointments will be held either via online or by phone until further notice. Appointments are open Monday-Friday during regular business hours.
Armitstead received a bachelor’s in communications from the University of Utah, with an emphasis in strategic communication.
