USU VP Leaving for Iowa State

Jack Payne, vice president and dean for Extension at Utah State University, accepted a similar position at Iowa State University effective Jan. 15. As the vice provost for Extension and outreach, Payne will direct Cooperative Extension programs in agriculture, natural resources, community and economic development, families and 4-H. The vice provost also administers University Extension, which includes business and industry programs and continuing education and communications services that provide delivery of off-campus credit and noncredit courses, conferences and continuing education offerings.

 

It was an extremely hard decision to leave Cache Valley and Utah, which for a long time I have considered home," Payne said. "I received a great education at Utah State that gave me a great career before coming back 20 years later to have the privilege of serving as vice president over extension and continuing education. These past five years definitely have been the highlight of my career.” 

 

“Jack Payne has been a tireless advocate for Cooperative Extension and Continuing Education at Utah State University,” said USU President Stan Albrecht. “We have greatly benefited from his extensive national involvement. I appreciate all he has done to enhance USU's significant statewide reach and reputation and wish him the very best in his new endeavors at Iowa State.  We are losing a great friend and colleague.”

 

Prior to joining Utah State in 2001, Payne oversaw the start-up of The American National Fish and Wildlife Museum, Springfield, Mo., serving as its first CEO and president. He also spent 10 years with Ducks Unlimited Inc., serving as national director and western states director of the private lands program, acting executive director of Ducks Unlimited de Mexico and national director of conservation. Payne also served on the faculties of Texas A&M and Penn State Universities.
