USU Volleyball Ranked Eighth, Brainard 5th in NCAA Blocking Statistics

Utah State [University] volleyball is ranked eighth in the NCAA team statistics for blocking, with 3.00 blocks per set, in the recent national statistical rankings released by the NCAA Monday afternoon [September 22, 2014]. Individually, junior opposite side hitter Elle Brainard is fifth in the nation with 1.67 blocks per set.

The Aggies are also fourth in the nation in total team blocks with 114.0. USU’s 3.00 blocks per set is .01 behind UNLV for the top spot in the Mountain West statistics, as the Rebels are No. 7 in the NCAA.

USU is also in the top 100 of the national statistics in digs per set, ranking 81st with 15.55.

Joining Brainard in the top 100 rankings of the national marks is senior libero Ashlan Rogers-Court, who is 54th in digs per set (4.66), while senior setter Paige Neves is 95th in assists per set (10.00).

In the Mountain West rankings, USU is also second in digs per set (15.55), as well as fifth in opponent hitting percentage (.187), sixth in aces per set (1.34), seventh in both kills per set (12.24) and assists per set (11.37) and eighth in hitting percentage (.197).

Individually, senior outside hitter Rachel Orr is second in the MW in kills per set (3.53) and fourth in points per set (4.11). Rogers-Court is third in digs per set (4.66) and Neves is fifth in assists per set (10.00). Senior middle blocker Kaitlyn VanHoff is eighth in hitting percentage (.344), tied for ninth in blocks per set (1.11), 10th in both points per set (3.75) and aces per set (0.32), as well as 16th in kills per set (2.87).

Utah State is currently 3-4 on the season and after two weeks of playing on the road, USU returned home to the friendly confines of Kirby Court at Wayne Estes Center to battle Beehive State foe Utah Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. in an “Aggie Blue Out,” with all USU fans encouraged to wear Aggie blue in cheering on USU volleyball. Utah came out on top 3-0 (20-25, 23-25, 19-25)

Wednesday’s “Aggie Blue Out” is not only the first of two of the week, but it is the first of two events between USU and UU, as the Aggies and Utes square off on the soccer pitch Friday, Sept. 19, at 4 p.m. (MT) at USU’s Chuck and Gloria Bell Soccer Field, and that is also an “Aggie Blue Out.”

Season tickets for the inaugural Utah State volleyball season at Kirby Court at Wayne Estes Center are now on sale. Fans can get reserved chairback season tickets for $50, while general admission season tickets are $40. Additionally, fans can purchase a Women’s Sports Pass for $75, which is good for general admission to all volleyball, women’s basketball and gymnastics home events.
