USU to Conduct Full-Scale Campus Safety Exercise on April 18

Utah State University will conduct a full-scale campus safety exercise from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 18.

This exercise aims to enhance emergency preparedness and response coordination among USU's Department of Public Safety, local law enforcement, fire departments, emergency medical services and other partner agencies.

The exercise will occur in the vicinity of the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum, Central Energy Plant, and Wayne Estes Center. These areas will be closed to the public during the event. Only authorized personnel and participants will have access to the designated zones.

During the exercise, emergency vehicles will operate with lights and sirens, and actors with simulated injuries will participate to create a realistic training environment. These activities are part of the planned exercise, and the community is advised not to be alarmed.

“This exercise allows us to test and refine our emergency response plans in a controlled environment,” said Scott Davis, director of emergency management at USU. “Training exercises like this help ensure that first responders and university personnel are ready to act quickly and effectively in real-life situations.”

USU encourages students, faculty, staff and community members to be aware of the planned exercise and to avoid the affected areas during the specified times. The goal of this exercise is to strengthen emergency response protocols and improve coordination between first responders and university personnel, thereby enhancing the safety and resilience of the campus community.
