USU Studio Ensembles Present Unique Upcoming Performance
By Ella Stott |
LOGAN, Utah — The Utah State University Music Department’s studio ensembles will perform at their “Small Ensembles” concert at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 12 in the Russell/Wanlass Performance Hall.
The performing ensembles include the flute, clarinet, horn and low brass studios.
Lane Weaver, director of the low brass choir, noted that listening to these ensembles offers a distinct and fun listening experience for audience members.
“It’s unique instrumentation and unique types of sounds and colors that you’re not going to get in other ensembles,” Weaver said. “You’ll also see some instruments that you don’t normally see, like an alto flute or a contrabass clarinet, which are a little less common in ensembles.”
The studios, made up of both music and non-music majors, perform each semester after focusing on specific literature.
“The music is selected to be a variety of things,” Weaver said. “I try to select music that complements the ensemble membership and things I think would be engaging for both the performer and the audience.”
Community members will also have the chance to participate in the concert with the low brass and horns studios.
“It’s one of the more unique performances each semester,” Weaver said. “It’s a chance to hear ensembles people don’t normally hear in a way you normally wouldn’t get to hear them.”
“Small Ensembles” is free and open to the public with no ticket required. For more information, visit the online calendar.
