USU Students to Benefit from New Qwest Call Center

Employment opportunities for Utah State University students significantly increased with the announcement February 21 of the opening of a 574-employee Qwest customer care center in North Logan.USU President Stan Albrecht said Qwest will accommodate student employment by offering split shift opportunities.

Full-time salaried employees will average $40,000 annually, including benefits. The minimum salary will be $24,000, including employee benefits. At least 43 jobs will pay more than $60,000 annually, said Jerry Fenn, president of Utah’s Qwest operations.

 

Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. told Albrecht the new center will provide part-time and career opportunities for students in decades ahead.

 

He said Utah, the fifth fastest growing state in the nation, provides a workforce “proud and prepared, committed and loyal.” He called the announcement “momentous” and one that would have a positive impact on Cache Valley and the state of Utah “for generations to come.”

 

Fenn said part of the decision to locate in Cache Valley was based on a workforce that is “technically advanced, savvy and dependable.”

 

He also announced that Qwest would install a redundant fiber optic path into Cache Valley to serve as a backup to the mainline fiber optic route.

 

The center will be located in the old 90,000 square-foot Anderson Lumber building, 2250 North main. An addition to the structure is planned, Fenn said.

 

Training will begin as early as April, with the operation fully staffed and running by mid-August. This is Qwest’s third call center.
