USU Students Take State Prize in Skills USA Competition

FACT Center student employees Katie Petersen and Ryan Harris took the first place award at a recent statewide competition sponsored by Utah Skills USA, a sub-program of the larger Skills USA. The USU team of Petersen and Harris took first place honors in the Web Design competition.

Skills USA programs include local, state and national competitions in which students demonstrate occupational and leadership skills. During its annual national championships, more than 4,600 students compete in 80 occupational and leadership skill areas.

 

The Utah Skills USA competition was held March 30-31 at Salt Lake Community College in Salt Lake City. Petersen and Harris were among the 10 teams competing in the Web design section of the contest. According to Petersen, teams were assigned a “problem” and were given until the next day to create the solution.

Utah State University’s Faculty Assistance Center for Teaching, FACT, provides assistance, training and support for the improvement of instruction at USU. Its staff is available to answer questions, provide consultation and help with design and development. Training is also available through workshops or on an individual basis.
