USU Student Recreation and Wellness Center Gets New Name

Construction of Utah State University’s student recreation and wellness center is now underway following a groundbreaking ceremony last Wednesday [March 19]. Based on input received from USU students, the Campus Recreation Department and the Division of Student Services has changed the name of the building to the Aggie Recreation Center. 

“Students felt like the name of the building was confusing because the university already has a wellness center,” said Kevin Kobe, the director of Campus Recreation. “Including ‘Aggie’ in the name of the building will serve to better connect students to this student-driven project.”

Construction of the Aggie Recreation Center will begin in early April. The 100,000 square-foot building will have three levels with three basketball courts, a multi-activity court, indoor track, weight and cardio rooms, and it will also house USU’s Outdoor Recreation Program.

The building’s construction is funded by student fees and is projected to open fall 2015.
