USU's Science Unwrapped Probes 'Black Holes' Friday, Feb. 10

Lurking at the center of every galaxy, black holes capture our imaginations with their size, power and mystery. But how do scientists study these massive space monsters?
Utah State University physicist Maria Rodriguez dons a detective’s hat and guides us in exploring these cosmic phenomena at Science Unwrapped on Friday, Feb. 10, 2017. She presents “CSI: Black Holes in the Universe” at 7 p.m. in the Emert Auditorium, Room 130, of the Eccles Science Learning Center on campus.
“Black holes are very dense celestial bodies held together by gravity,” says Rodriguez, assistant professor in USU’s Department of Physics and member of the National Science Foundation-funded Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory Scientific Collaboration. “Not even light can escape their gravitational pull.”
Refreshments and hands-on learning activities follow Rodriguez’s talk. Hosted by USU’s College of Science, admission is free and all ages are welcome.
The Feb. 10 presentation is the second event of Science Unwrapped’s spring 2017 Science Fact, Science Fiction series. Additional presentations are scheduled for March 17 and April 7.
